Overview

If there were ever an island built for X’ing Bonaire would be it. Almost every dive site is accessible by shore and the entries, on the west side (leeward side), are all easy even with a 33lb/15kg scooter.

On this trip were Echo, Andrew, George and Margaret Georgitsis, Kathy and Brian Gilpin, Roger Bly and Jonathan Derosier.  We were staying at the Belmar Dive resort. For toys, we had six X-Scooters (one CSI), Roger’s HD video camera, and Andrew and Echo’s Nikon D200.

We arrived on Saturday Nov 24th, 2007, all very excited to explore this Caribbean islands’ dive sites. Our plane touched down at 6:00 am, allowing us to get our luggage, and rent “dive trucks”, check in and make the 9:00 am pre-dive briefing given by the shop.  After a self conducted “check out” dive we were free to explore the 63 plus shore dive sites at are leisure.  Just simply grab tanks (unlimited diving), load the 4 door Mazda trucks, and off we go.

The group had been feverishly discussing the week’s events. We wanted to start by checking out the extreme south and north sites in hopes to spot some large animals, then doing the wreck of the Hilma Hooker and then finally checking out the inner sites to include some traverses covering as much of the reef as we could.
