Matt: Hey everyone, I’m Matt Armstrong
Jeremy: And I’m Jeremy Bonner and this is another installment of E-Shows.
Matt: Today we are going to be talking about spares kits. There are 4 kinds of spares kits, the annual, standard, pro, and expedition.
Jeremy: As with every piece of mechanical equipment, your scooter is going to require maintenance to keep it working at its peak performance.
Matt: Moving parts, seals, and parts that are exposed to the corrosive water environment are always going to need replacement over time. They simply break down from use.
Jeremy: A very effective way of extending the life of your parts is to thoroughly rinse your scooter every time you dive with it. That way dirt, grim, salt water do not get the chance to startcausing problems.
Matt: An annual service should realistically be done every year to prevent corrosion and even water leakage. All the parts that are required to do an annual service are in an annual service kit.
Jeremy: The service kits add on to each other, the standard gets more than the annual, pro gets more than the standard and the expedition pretty much includes everything but the big parts.
Matt: Here’s what is included in the annual service kit; face and barrel O-rings, 10 clutch washers, rear shaft seal, retaining ring, dowel pin, and a clutch washer screw.
Jeremy: Now this is a standard spares kit, everyone that purchases a scooter from Dive Xtras receives one of these. It includes everything that is in an annual service kit plus an adhesive Velcro strip w/ 2 weight pouches, a 30 AMP fuse, additional sets of barrel and face O-rings, trigger locking screw, strike and catch, inner hub, one prop blade and 4 M3 screws. This is all contained in a Seahorse waterproof case. There is plenty of room for customization if you want to have extra parts.
Matt: The pro spares kit contains everything in a standard spares kit plus a full propeller replacement, tool kit, trigger components and D-ring assembly.
Jeremy: The Expedition spares kit includes everything in a pro spares kit plus replacement electronics, motor & battery connectors, trigger rod, and motor bearings. It also comes in a bigger Seahorse waterproof case. If this is ordered separately, make sure to specify which scooter you have. The Sierra and CUDA’s look similar but are different electronics, trigger rods, and motor bearings.
Matt: The purpose of the pro and expedition spares kits are not really for doing normal maintenance. The purpose of these is so you can have spare parts readily available to you on your dive boat if something goes wrong. Especially the Expedition kit really prepares you for anything happening during an extended trip.
Jeremy: Again rinsing out your scooter every time you dive will dramatically improve the life of parts you will annually need to replace.
Matt: If you are looking for help performing an annual service, you can go to dive-xtras.com to the support and the servicing section and click on the annual service PowerPoint. It will guide you through the process from start to finish with pictures and video
