Example pages from the Owners Manual:
OOA Situations with a scooter

In the event of a gas-sharing situation whilst scootering, the normal sharing procedure can be followed, with the only difference being that the X-Scooter will now be held in the hold position (see holding section above) Once the emergency has been dealt with, it only then remains for the team to consider their option; direct ascent or return to entry point?  (Pre-dive gas planning and in dive gas management should have provided sufficient reserve for any necessary scenario)

  1. If making a direct ascent whilst air sharing, both team members will first stow their X-Scooters (See stow section).

  2. The team can then store the X-Scooter either by clipping them to the left chest D-ring or the hip D-ring (by attaching a double ender to the nose d-ring and the d-ring on your equipment or by running the tow cord through the nose D-ring and clipping it to the chest or hip d-ring.)
  3. Then they can proceed with the Out of Air horizontal ascent as normal.
    * Note the X-scooter is stowed and stored as it is no longer needed during the ascent

  4. If returning to the exit point (Long distances) using the X-Scooter, the out of gas diver will tow the donor (as outlined above). Not only will this ensure the receiver is always in front of the donor and in contact with the X-Scooter (thus making it highly improbable that they will loose contact with the donor) It also gives the OOG diver something to do.

  5. The donating diver or passenger stows their X-Scooter* and places it in the tow position (outlined above) The team then proceed to exit as normal.
  6. An alternative method is to scooter side by side back to the exit point (short distance). The OOA diver should be in front and on the left side of the donating diver allowing both the long hose to route comfortably and the donating diver to give touch contact signals with their left hand (free hand) to the OOA diver on the right arm. This method is risky and should on be used for short distances returning to the upline.

*Note: A working scooter is a valuable emergency asset to the team and as such is always stowed and towed. A working scooter is never abandoned.
